Instructions
Preparation Steps
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Lightly flour a clean surface and unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Sprinkle the sugar evenly over the puff pastry.
1 sheet puff pastry
Gently roll the puff pastry with the sugar to help it stick and to slightly thin it out. Fold the pastry in half, then in half again.
Cut the folded puff pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
Take one strip and make a diagonal cut about halfway down. Then, make another diagonal cut on the other side, creating a 'V' shape.
Gently unfold the pastry to reveal the heart shape. Place the pastry hearts on the prepared baking sheet.
Brush the tops of the pastry hearts with the beaten egg.
1 sheet puff pastry
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
Let cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature. These are delicious on their own or dusted with a little more powdered sugar.
