Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar for rolling
  • 1 egg beaten, for egg wash

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Lightly flour a clean surface and unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Sprinkle the sugar evenly over the puff pastry.
    1 sheet puff pastry
  • Gently roll the puff pastry with the sugar to help it stick and to slightly thin it out. Fold the pastry in half, then in half again.
  • Cut the folded puff pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
  • Take one strip and make a diagonal cut about halfway down. Then, make another diagonal cut on the other side, creating a 'V' shape.
  • Gently unfold the pastry to reveal the heart shape. Place the pastry hearts on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Brush the tops of the pastry hearts with the beaten egg.
    1 sheet puff pastry
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
  • Let cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. These are delicious on their own or dusted with a little more powdered sugar.
