Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk whole milk recommended
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease and flour an 8x8 inch baking pan or a 10-inch cast-iron skillet.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and melted butter.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan or skillet and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve warm with butter or honey. This cornbread is also excellent with chili or barbecue.
