Ingredients

For the Biscuits

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 0.66 cup cold milk or buttermilk

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add the cold milk, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a 0.75-inch thick round.
  • Using a 2-inch round biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits. Re-pat scraps gently and cut again.
  • In a small bowl, mix together cinnamon and sugar for the coating.
  • Dip the top of each biscuit into the melted butter, then into the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Place biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, sugar-side up.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon sugar mixture.
