Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 6 medium apples such as Gala, Fuji, or Honeycrisp, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Crumble Topping

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup rolled oats not instant
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
  • Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt for the topping.
  • Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
  • Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving. It's delicious served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For an extra touch of flavor, you can add a pinch of ground ginger to the apple filling or a handful of chopped nuts (like pecans or walnuts) to the topping.
